THE NEED.

Syncretistic Spiritual Condition

Syncretistic Spiritual Condition

In the syncretistic spiritual context of India, the culture is notably inclusive, embracing all people and beliefs. As a result, many individuals not only tolerate but also continue to practice their traditional customs, struggling to wholly commit to their newfound faith in Christ. This syncretism is often perpetuated by a fear of rejection from family, relatives, and the broader community. Consequently, they face challenges in becoming true disciples of Christ, fully exercising their faith in obedience to the scriptures. There is a pressing need to impart the gospel truth that distinguishes them as followers of Christ, enabling them to be a light, sharing the gospel both in word and deed with those around them.

Unsound Biblical Knowledge and Teaching

Due to inadequate biblical knowledge, pastors cannot preach the full counsel of God. Lacking a complete understanding of the truth, they struggle to embody and convey it effectively, leading to fragmented teachings for their congregations and hindering their ability to fully live out the gospel. Therefore, it is crucial to develop pastors and leaders who are committed to studying, knowing, believing, living, and preaching the truth comprehensively.

Lack of Christian Worldview

Many Indian believers suffer from a lack of a coherent Christian worldview, leading to a fragmented understanding of their faith. This results in ethical ambiguity, where they are uncertain about moral decisions, leading to actions inconsistent with Christian teachings. They are more susceptible to conforming to secular norms and values, causing a compartmentalization of their faith from other aspects of life such as work, politics, education, and social interactions. This fragmentation hampers spiritual growth and maturity, leading to ineffective witnessing and reducing the impact of evangelism and discipleship. Therefore, there is a critical need for a holistic approach where Christianity is understood not just as a religion but as a comprehensive worldview guiding all aspects of life. Pastors, leaders, and churches must emphasize scriptural teachings to ground this worldview, encouraging critical thinking within a biblical framework to help believers engage thoughtfully with the world. Practical application of biblical principles in personal, professional, and social conduct should be demonstrated, showing how faith can influence every area of life. Building church communities that foster teachings, discussions, and reflections on a Christian worldview can provide the necessary support and accountability, helping believers live out their faith authentically and effectively share the gospel.

THE CALL.

The Call

After being saved as a student in the USA, Sushma Bala Yesupogu fervently shared the joy, peace, and fulfillment she found in Jesus Christ with her family and friends in India. One of the most impactful verses that inspired her lifelong mission is Matthew 9:37, “Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.’” This verse resonates deeply with her due to the contrast between her joy in Christ and the struggles her people face in seeking happiness through worldly means.

Romans 10:14-15 profoundly influenced Sushma: “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’” Reflecting on it, Sushma wished she had known the truth earlier in life and recognized the scarcity of Bible-teaching, Bible-believing, and Bible-following churches among her people. This realization fueled her desire to return to India with her Telugu-speaking pastor husband to share the gospel. Sushma is now married to Moshe Raju Yesupogu, a passionate Telugu-speaking pastor, who is committed not only to nurturing believers in church settings but also to planting churches and providing biblical training and financial support to struggling pastors. Together, they are currently serving as church planters on the field.
